BACK PAIN AND SCIATICA RELIEVING HABITS FOR HAPPY HEALTHY MUMS

As a mum to be myself I see a number of fellow mums posting online who are struggling with back pain and even sciatica. The comments I see that are people giving advice who are in the same situation are along the lines of “ get yourself a decent pregnancy pillow.” “I’ve been told it’ll go after pregnancy” “it does go away once your body has adapted to its new shape”

I know from clients we see in the centre that this is an old way of thinking. These ways of thinking unfortunately do not work. We see so many clients coming in who have had their children for months or even  years still struggling with their back.

Does that sound like you?

I have also seen clients who have come into us at Life Balance during their pregnancy gone through to leading a pain-free pregnancy and have gone on being able to enjoy time with their family and not worry about their backs going.

Laura came to us after having a baby boy experiencing low back pain and sciatica and was struggling to lift and feed her baby boy.  Like most people. Laura was advised that sciatica and back pain would disappear after pregnancy. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, so she sought out alternatives.

Is Waiting, wishing and hoping for it to disappear not working?

Here are our top 4 lasting habits you can do daily to help relieve that back pain and sciatica

  1. Move -Sitting for longer than 20 minutes at a time puts a lot of pressure on the pelvis and muscles surrounding the lower back. Movement will encourage healing, reduce inflammation and stop any weakness occurring in the pelvis and lower back.
  2. Every time you wear heels you increase the curve in your back. Not so good when you have lower back pain or sciatica. Every time you wear them you have about 25 times more pressure going through your lower back, discs and joints. That’s like walking with 3 - 4 kids on your hips.
  3. Yoga - Find yourself a local pregnancy yoga specialist. We are in Poole and I’ve been using lushtums, but there are loads out there offering online classes. Make sure you ask if they can do specialist work on your lower back and if they have experience with people who have lower back and sciatica pain.
  4. Sometimes no matter how much exercise you do, you need to adjust the structure and alignment of the joints. Find a method that has a process to assess and uncover the underlying cause. Find a System that gets a lasting result as quickly and efficiently as possible and be accountable as a partner in your healing and recovery to make lasting change in your health and life.
Choosing chiropractic care is a great way to make your body a better place to be in. If you have been suffering from lower back pain and struggling day to day.

I guess you may be thinking how do I know if it will work for me? The truth is you won’t!

When considering your options for care ensure you go somewhere that will do a thorough consultation, investigation and report of findings first before any treatment to ensure you have chosen the right care for you.

Ok so to sum it up, here are our top 4 lasting habits you can do daily to help relieve that back pain and sciatica.

  1. MOVE Get up and move every 20 minutes

  2. Don't wear heels and get your flats out

  3. Practice Yoga and self-care

  4. See a professional (do your research first) Take care of your spine  - Find the cause.
